The Salt Crystals

Verónica Baruq returned to San Andrés, Colombia. An unsettling picture of her great-great-grandparents and the strange encounter with a “raizal” old lady at the First Baptiste Church, are some of the triggers that start to reveal details of her origins, and contacts her with the unknown history of the island and with the social movements that, around the sound of “zouk” and “calypso”, celebrates “raizal” identity.

Author´s biography

Cristina Bendek (San Andrés, 1987). She studied Government and International Relations, and after thirteen years between Bogotá and México City, she returned to the island to dedicate to journalism. Her first novel, The Salt Crystals, was the winner of the first Elisa Mújica Award for female writers promoted by the alliance of “Idartes” and “Laguna Libros”.
