The Defeated narrates the life of the polymath Francisco José de Caldas and his naturalistic and independentist pursuits, it is also a story of the revolutionary struggle of the EPL guerrillas through the life of three young men and their passions: botany, photography and literature. By relying on poetry, essay, story, epistolary relationship, and biography, deals with Colombia, past and present, between horror and hope.

Author´s biography

Pablo Montoya (Barrancabermeja, 1963). Writer and professor of Literature at the Antioquia University. With the novel Tríptico de la infamia, he won the Rómulo Gallegos International Novel Prize in 2015 and the José María Arguedas narrative prize from Casa de las Américas in 2017. He received the José Donoso Ibero-American Literature Prize for his body of work in 2016.
