The award-winning journalist Juan Miguel Álvarez presents this compilation of twentyfive chronicles made during thirteen years living between Cali, Bogotá, Pereira, Medellín, and other corners of our country. In this book, Juan Miguel shows some elements that have become part of Colombian daily life, such as violence and drug dealing, and also tells us about his perpetual search for “light in humanity”. Each chronicle is complemented with a journal in which Juan Miguel tells us what it is like to be a Colombian chronicler and freelancer.

Author´s biography

Juan Miguel Álvarez. Is a Colombian journalist from Javeriana University of Bogotá. He has worked writing chronicles for El Malpensante, El Espectador y Semana. Juan Miguel was two times winner of the Simón Bolívar award: in 2017 with the chronicle “Paulina busca una hija”, and in 2018 with “El poder bajo la tierra”, published in Vice magazine. In Rey Naranjo he has published the books Balas por encargo, Verde tierra calcinada, finalist of the Biblioteca Narrativa Colombiana award (2019), and Lugar de tránsito (2021). In 2022 was winner of Anagrama Chronicle Award Sergio González Rodriguez.
